A customer contacted us with an urgent requirement from the well owner that they must monitor combustible gas during Well Test operations and ESD the rig and platform in the event of > 40% LEL concentration. The project was to take place in Japan and had to meet ATEX requirements for the hazardous atmosphere. Our knowledge and previous experience with international standards allowed us to quickly devise a control system that would be simple for the operators (language barriers) to use and install. The unit consisted of a PLC to record analog values and relay data to a customer data acquisition system.
